Who
We Are
A BEATTM & Meisner Technique drama school
The Actors Door Studio (ADS) offers unique part time conservatory style acting programs to suit aspiring actors. Our philosophy is that an actor’s body, voice and emotional instrument need to be developed holistically in order to achieve excellence in performance and in the craft of acting.
The Studio’s teaching methodology was developed by studio director, Fay Beck, and has been appropriately named Beck Emotional Access Technique or BEATTM for short. Fay Beck specifically developed the technique to enable actors to access their emotions in order to fuel performance. While the technique utilises some of key exercises from the Meisner Technique, in BEATTM, those exercises are used differently and with different aims.
To ensure that the actor’s instrument is trained holistically, ADS currently offers a 2 Yr Part Time Drama Course and a 2YR Part Time BEAT Course for students eager to take acting craftmanship to the next level. The training programs are fully integrated systems of acting tutelage that encompass scene study, screen acting, voice and movement.
In addition to core acting modules, the Studio offers classes, workshops and short courses in scene study, advanced characterisation, screen acting and audition.

Our
Difference
A tailored approach to training actors
A tailored approach to training actors
A tailored approach to training actors
We do not believe that one size fits all. All of our instructors are trained to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student which allows them to develop a bespoke plan of action. This plan is continually updated to help the individual reach their goals. What sets us apart from other acting schools is this tailored approach to training actors. In practice it means teaching our method in small groups while providing bespoke training based on the individual abilities of the actor.
Individualism
Individualism
Individualism
We respect the individual and focus on cultivating each person. Our aim is foster their development and to give them the opportunity to develop as an artist of many characters and identities.
The actor as an artist of emotions
The actor as an artist of emotions
The actor as an artist of emotions
We re-imagine the actor as a painter who uses paints, the canvas and brushes to create a painting. For us the actor uses technique and tools (the brushes) to express their emotions (the paint) on the canvas (the stage or screen). In our training we strive to enrich the actor’s palette and expand the tool set thus giving them the opportunity to create performances that are emotionally rich, blended and nuanced. We believe such work has the capacity to reach audiences more powerfully and poignantly.
If you are motivated with a desire to become an acrobat of emotion, if you are intrigued and emotionally driven to experience other characters through meaningful embodiment, then the Actors Door Studio is the place for you.
